Oneida County Youth Cultural Arts Festival to be held April 23
"Participants can display or present one or more projects in the categories of art, music performance, drama, photography, and demonstrations (public speaking) and receive feedback by local community judges," festival organizers explained in a press release. "Each participant will receive a medal, and a participation ribbon and feedback sheet for each project entered."
More information and registration can be found online at https://oneida.extension.wisc.edu or by calling 715- 365-2750. Participants do not have to be enrolled in 4-H or have any 4-H experience to participate. The registration deadline is March 15. Cost is free for 4-H members (4-H is free to join anytime) or $5 per non-enrolled youth. There is no visitor cost, so parents and friends are encouraged to come and watch.
"The judges will be local professionals whose purpose will be to provide positive feedback with ideas for the youth on how to improve and grow their cultural arts work in the future," said Lynn Feldman, Oneida County 4-H Leaders' Association president and coordinator of the event. "This aligns with the 4-H slogan of 'Learning by Doing' and the 4-H motto of 'Make your Best Better.'"
This event places an emphasis on participants having fun, sharing their knowledge and skills, reflecting on what they learned, and relating experiences to their own lives, according to Anne Williams, Oneida County 4-H Educator.
"Judges will be asking questions, listening carefully, helping participants reflect on their experiences, and supporting each youth's unique learning," Williams said. "This is what makes an activity become a learning experience."
Accommodations and language access can be requested to UW-Extension Oneida County by March 15. For more information, visit https://oneida.extension.wisc.edu or call 715-365-2750.
