Arlene Gertrude Potters

Our beloved mother, Arlene Gertrude Potters, joined her husband, Bernie, in heaven on Monday, Jan. 24, 2022 at the age of 94.

On March 15, 1927, in the kitchen above the family-owned butcher shop on the south side of Chicago, Arlene was born to Bruno and Agnes Manikowski. Arlene attended Chicago local Catholic schools through high school. She was a tomboy who never shrank away from high adventure with friends and cousins. After graduating from Bowen High School, Arlene worked several jobs, but her favorite was at Steel City Liquor in the Loop where she oversaw the bookkeeping and managed the secretarial pool. Arlene met the love of her life, Bernard, at a Chicago City Dance Hall after his return from active duty in World War II. Arlene and Bernard married in 1948. They followed their dream to manage a resort in the Northwoods of Wisconsin and bought the Knotty Pine Resort on Catfish Lake in Eagle River. Together they adopted and raised two children, John and Karen. Arlene loved fishing, boating, and swimming. She could play the accordion with a flourish and had an astoundingly difficult-to-read poker face. Arlene was an active member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church in Eagle River and always made time to volunteer at their school.

Active, strong, and unafraid to be adventurous, even at 94, Arlene loved to dance and enjoyed time with friends. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She will be dearly missed by her children, John (Dona) Potters, and Karen Potters; grandchildren, Brandon (Seresa) Potters and their son, Jameson; Krystal (Brian) Cromwell and their children, Keira and Liam; Barbara Beavers and her son, Leonard; Therese (Greg) Brokmeier and their sons, Sawyer, Jack, and Huck; Ian (Brittany) Pecor and their children, Jayden, Addelynn, and Easton.

Arlene will forever be remembered by all who knew and loved her.

The visitation for Arlene will be held today, Friday, Feb. 11, 2022 at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, located at 125 King Street, from 9:30 a.m. until the 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Fr. Chris Kemp will officiate.

If you cannot attend or would prefer to attend virtually, the Mass will be live streamed from the funeral home facebook page at (https://www.facebook.com/HildebrandRussFuneralHome).

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hildebrand Funeral Home & Cremation Specialists, 24 E. Davenport Street, Rhinelander, Wisconsin, 54501, 715-365-4343. Everyone is invited to sign the guestbook or leave an online condolence at www.hildebrandrussfh.com.
