Sheriff announces release of sex offender

By River News Staff-

Oneida County sheriff Grady Hartman is alerting the public regarding the release of a convicted sex offender to the Rhinelander area.

Blaine Ciardo, 64, has been released from prison after serving his sentence and is living at 17 West Prospect Street in Rhinelander, the sheriff explained in a statement posted to the sheriff's department's Facebook page.

While law enforcement agencies routinely publicize the release of sex offenders to the community, this announcement was especially detailed in terms of explaining the offender's history.

The post notes that while Ciardo was convicted of exposing a child to harmful material, he was originally charged with child sexual assault, child enticement and related crimes.

"I believe that it is important that you know there were two child victims, 8 and 9 years old, involved in these cases who reported being sexually assaulted on several occasions by Ciardo," the post reads. "Ciardo was in the position of caregiving for each of these children and violated the trust given to him by their parents. Ciardo took the female child into a room alone and (assaulted) the child. The child attempted to leave and Ciardo carried the child back into the room and to the bed. Ciardo also made the female child shower with him naked and made the child watch Ciardo as Ciardo shaved his intimate part. Ciardo attempted to make the female child touch Ciardo but the female child did not. In the other case, Ciardo was also reported to have touched (a) male child on his intimate part on more than one occasion. As is common with sex offenders, Ciardo exposed both of these children to pornographic material. I am releasing this information as I believe that it is important for the community to know that Ciardo is a predator and should not be trusted with your children."

If there are any instances where Ciardo attempts to have contact with your children or if you have concern about any of his other actions, please contact the Oneida County Sheriff's Office Communications Center at 715-361-5201 and someone will be assigned to assist you, the post states.
