Senior Charlie Heck earned the team's Hodag Award and Leo Losch earning the Academic Excellence Award as the senior with the highest GPA on the squad.
The team did not hand out offensive, defensive and overall most valuable player awards as it has in years past.
"I cannot think of one person on this team that deserved an MVP award because you guys, as a team, reached every goal we could have possibly reached this year. So, therefore, your awards will be sitting in the awards case at the high school for a long, long time to come," Hodag coach Nathan Bates said, referencing the plaque the team received for its the first WIAA sectional championship and state tournament appearance in program history.
The team highlighted its all-conference award winners, with Heck earning unanimous first-team honors along with GNC co-defensive player of the year.
Braden Mork and Will Quinn also received first-team honors. Losch, Kyle Wiese and Shane Petrick were named to the GNC's second team. Andrew Henrichs and goalkeeper Cooper Radke received honorable mention.
The team also announced its captains for the upcoming 2023 season. Seniors-to-be Quinn, Mason Shinners, Neil Weigel and Matthew King will share the captaincy.
As reported in the Tuesday, Dec. 6 edition of the River News, Bates announced at the banquet he plans to step down as head boys' soccer coach after four seasons and this year's trip to the WIAA Division 3 state tournament. He plans to remain on as head coach of the Hodag girls' soccer team.
