Howard was born in Westfield, on Dec. 24, 1934, to Esther and Walter Brandt. He lived in various cities in Wisconsin before joining the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. After the Army, he moved to Rhinelander and began work at Reeves supermarket. His mother Esther (Brandt) and Al Reeves had recently opened the supermarket, which was the first one in town. While in Rhinelander, Howard married Sharon Ives and together they raised their two children, Steven and Susan, on beautiful Townline Lake. Howard spent most of his working life as a route salesman for Frito Lay. He enjoyed playing pool in local leagues, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, ice fishing, gardening and traveling. He and Sharon explored much of the United States on their motorcycle.
After he retired they moved to Mesa, Ariz. where they resided in a golf and RV resort park. While living in Arizona, Howard took up golf and tennis and continued shooting pool and gardening. They enjoyed an active social life and the beautiful weather there for over 25 years. Howard will be remembered by many for his good sense of humor and adventurous spirit.
Towards the end of his life, Howard and Sharon moved to Minnesota to be closer to family.
Howard is survived by his wife, Sharon, of Eagan, Minn.; brother Julius Brandt, Madison; children, Steven, Annapolis, Md., Susan (Erik), Eagan, Minn.; grandchildren Rebecca Crawford, Missoula, Mt., Alex Brandt, Austin, Texas, Emma Veum, Minneapolis, Minn., and Annika Veum, Minneapolis, Minn.; great-grandchild Jack Brandt, Austin, Texas and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents was well as many beloved aunts and uncles.
