Donald "Don" Richard Kope Jr., 69, of Rhinelander, passed away on Friday evening, Nov. 25, 2022, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, with his family at his side.

Don was born in Manitowoc, on Nov. 7, 1953, to Donald and Marilyn (Sharpe) Kope Sr. and was the eldest of four children. Don attended Manitowoc public schools. He was united in marriage to Sandy Rezachek in Manitowoc at St. Boniface Catholic Church on Sept. 26, 1981. The couple lived in Manitowoc until 1984 when they moved to Rhinelander. Don began his employment with the Department of Transportation working on the road crew for the next 16 years. He was employed with the D.O.T. until 2000. He was then employed with the Northwoods River News for many years.

He met his future companion, Mary Straus, in 2016.

Don enjoyed singing, fishing, hunting, boating, working on cars, but most of all, Don enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was an avid supporter of Donald Trump and plans on voting for him in 2024!

Surviving are his children, Kevin Englebert of Sturgeon Bay, Brenda (Jason) Krueger of Milwaukee, Angela Englebert of New Orleans, Adam Kope, Amanda Tenhagen, and Erin Kope, all of Rhinelander; 18 grandchildren, Brianna, Brandy, Ashley, Christopher, Dominique, Camaria, Brianna, Marissa, Nathan, Levi, Brady, Meadow, Evan, Addisyn, Sierra, Emily, Ethan, Emmett; his companion, Mary Straus of Rhinelander, his former wife, Sandy Kope of Rhinelander, two siblings, David (Jeannie) Kope of DePere, Mary Ellen (Bob) Jankowski of Manitowoc, and a sister-in-law, Yvonne Kope of Manitowoc. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, Brenda Kope, a brother, Dennis Kope, and a son-in-law, Joel Tenhagen.

The visitation for Don will be held on Sunday, Dec. 4, 2022, at the Hildebrand Funeral Home from 11 a.m. until the 1 p..m. memorial service. Dn. Dick Meier will officiate.
