Faythe was born in Monico, on Feb. 16, 1936, to Roy L. and Frances E. (Belski) Mikkelson. She was raised in Monico attending Monico Grade School and later McCord Grade School and St. Mary's Catholic Grade School. She was a 1954 graduate of Rhinelander High School. On Feb. 28, 1955, Faythe was united in marriage in Iron Mountain, Mich. to James R. Stefonik. Faythe was employed as a nursing assistant and later as a unit clerk at St. Mary's Hospital for 22 years. She was also employed at Badger Metals Inc., Walmart and had been a school bus driver for the Three Lakes School System.
Faythe was a member of St. Kunegunda of Poland Catholic Church, and the Rhinelander V.F.W. Women's Auxiliary. She enjoyed participating in Tuesday evening volleyball and a Wednesday evening pool league in Sugar Camp.
Faythe's interests included camping, reading, puzzles, knitting, traveling to Florida, watching John Wayne movies, and spending time with her children especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Having a bit of a sweet tooth, Faythe always had chocolates available, and her favorite were Brach's chocolate stars.
Faythe will be remembered for the love shown to her family. She always remembered everyone's birthday, making sure every family member received a birthday card and even going so far as to mail birthday cards to extended family, and boyfriends and girlfriends of her grandchildren.
Survivors include her loving husband, James; children, Sandy (Jim) Ovsak of Eagle River, Bill (Geri) Stefonik of Rhinelander, Carolyn (Robert) Briggs of Monico, Patty (Rod) Bessa of Pelican Lake, Bruce (Debbie) Stefonik of Monico, and Brian (Julie) Stefonik of Sugar Camp; 15 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren; one brother, David (Phyllis) Mikkelson of Coral Gables, Florida, and two sisters-in-law, Linda Mikkelson of Sarasota, Florida, and Trudy Wentz of Foley, Alabama. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Faythe was preceded in death by her parents, two grandchildren, Don and James Ovsak, and by four brothers.
The visitation for Faythe will take place on Monday, Aug. 29, 2022, at St. Kunegunda of Poland Catholic Church, located at 6895 State Road 17, Sugar Camp, from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Fr. Ron Serrao and Dn. Al Goodrich will officiate.
Inurnment will take place at a later date at the Sugar Camp Cemetery.
Faythe will be deeply missed by her family.
