After his schooling he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Vietnam War with the Northern I Corps on the DMZ. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to the states and married Linda Clausen in 1974, in Burlington.
Ron worked as a barber in Burlington and in Kenosha before moving his family to Rhinelander in 1979. He then went to work as an EMT and served as the EMS coordinator. He also served as a professional firefighter and HazMat technician. Ron worked for the Oneida County Medical Examiners office starting as a deputy and eventually becoming the ME for Oneida County. He received his training at the St. Louis University in Medicolegal Death Investigation.
Ron enjoyed traveling with Linda and a favorite spot was the Highground Veterans Memorial in Neillsville. They also visited many national parks in the western United States, Alaska, the Rocky Mountains and a trip around Lake Superior on their Gold Wing trike. Ron enjoyed greasy hamburgers, the Blues, listening to his son sing with the Eau Claire Male Chorus and he looked forward to the monthly breakfast with the boys.
He was honored to have been on the Honor Flight in 2018 and he and Linda volunteered so that others could also experience that trip.
The family would like to thank Dr. Thomas Gabert for his care all of these years. In lieu of flowers they are also establishing memorials in Ron's name for the The Highground and the Never Forgotten Honor Flight.
Ron is survived by his wife Linda, his son Karl (Felicia) Koth, his brother Jerry (Sheila) Koth, nieces, nephews, other family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Larry.
Visitation for Ron will be held on Friday, Aug. 26, 2022 from 9 to 11 a.m., with funeral services following at 11 a.m., all at the Carlson Funeral Home.
Reverend Timothy Vadis will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery in Tomahawk.
