Thomas Arnold Theilig (Tom, Grandpa Tom), 77, of Rhinelander, entered fully into the presence of the Lord on the evening of Aug. 11, 2022 after unexpected complications during surgery. He was a beloved father, grandfather and husband of 56 years.

Tom will be remembered for his active involvement in the Nativity Parish, Alcoholics Anonymous (40 years) and Boy Scouts, as well as a golfer, outdoor enthusiast and member of the train club. Tom had the ability to connect with many. But to Tom and his loved ones, his biggest role was that of being a loving husband, father, much-adored grandfather and soon-to-be great-grandfather.

Tom could easily be described as a fun, loving, caring, loyal individual with a sense of humor. Always with a twinkle in his eye, contagious smile, and warm laugh, he made sure to make everyone feel accepted and welcome in his presence. He spent much time with his family creating special memories, and finding goofy, and sometimes comically embarrassing ways to make everyone laugh. To his grandchildren and anyone that called him Grandpa Tom, he was a best friend, shoulder to lean on, exemplary role model within the Church, and someone who made you feel truly special and loved.

Lastly, Tom was an amazing husband and best friend to Annette. The deep love between them could be recognized by anyone who saw them together. Whether they were going out with friends, camping, snow birds in Gulf Shores, or sharing many trips to coffee shops to the point where the baristas knew their names and orders. He will be truly missed, but we know that the love he felt for Annette, his children, grandchildren, and friends, will be present always.

Tom is survived by his wife, Annette, son Rick (Brenda), daughter Michelle (Peter) Metropulos, son Scott (Kristin), and his grandchildren, Tarynn (Brady), Seth (Sarenna), Kaitlyn, Katerina, Makayla, Noah and his brother Jim (Karen). He was preceded in death by his sister Carol Paul.

Visitation for Tom will be held on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2022 from 9 to 11 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., all at the Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church. Father Chris Kemp and Father Kevin Farrell will be officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials would be appreciated for the Nativity of Our Lord Catholic School.
