The 45-member Rhinelander Area Community Band will perform a free concert for the public at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 11 at the new 430-seat Fort Wilderness outdoor amphitheater.

The camp is located at 6180 Wilderness Trail, Rhinelander.

"Members of the community are encouraged to attend and enjoy the concert with notable classics, hymns, and inspirational music," organizers said in a press release. "Special guest trumpeter, Dr. David Gauger of Glen Ellyn, Ill., is a featured artist and will conduct the band. Gauger is an artist/professor at Moody Bible Institute of Chicago and plays with the Elgin Symphony Orchestra, as well as had past engagements with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Tulsa Philharmonic Orchestra."

The new open-air amphitheater at Fort Wilderness, the only of its kind in the Northwoods, serves as a meeting place for campers with music, teaching, all in the context of God's beautiful creation, the release states. Stone- tiered seating and multiple pagoda features enhance the spectacular outdoor venue overlooking Spider Lake. Completed in June of this year, the amphitheater was built with approximately 8,000 hours of Northwoods tradesmen, skilled volunteers from the Fort "Family" as well as with Fort's construction superintendent, architect and team. The facility was made possible, free of debt, by financial, material and labor gifts from friends of the camp.

"We welcome the Northwoods community to join us for this wonderful concert in this brand-new outdoor venue on the shores of Spider Lake," noted Todd Leyden, executive director. "We are excited to share this space and concert with residents of Oneida and surrounding counties on this special occasion."

Parking for the concert at the camp is free of charge. Attendees are encouraged to arrive a bit early for a quick tour of the camp facilities, as well as to enjoy snacks and/or coffee as the Canteen and Campground's coffee shop will be open.

Fort Wilderness, a year-round Christian camping ministry, annually serves more than 9,000 youth and family members on three sites. The facilities are located on Spider and Blair lakes in Oneida County on the southern edge of the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest. Founded in 1956 by Truman and Jan Robertson, Fort is celebrating its 66th year of camping ministry in the Northwoods.
