Rhinelander 2-05 competes at state Special Olympics

Three Rhinelander 2-05 Special Olympics athletes recently competed at the 2022 State Special Olympic Athletics (Track and Field) competition in Waukesha.

The two-day competition on July 30-31 saw Ashley Mathy bring home a first place in the 100-meter run and second place in both the 200-meter run and softball throw.

Darrick Nelson earned second place in the 100 and 200 meters and a third place in the running long jump. Jonathan Ankrom earned first place in the standing long jump and seventh place for both the 100 and throwing the mini-javelin.

Rhinelander 2-05 Athletics are coached by Rod Ankrom and Anna Mathy.

This year's competition celebrated the 50th anniversary of Special Olympics in Wisconsin and state competitions were held in athletics, softball, swimming and bocce ball.
