Raymond was born Nov. 25, 1930, to Raymond Peter and Mona Mary (Holmes) Novak in Muscatine, Iowa. He attended Muscatine area schools, graduating from Saint Mathias high school. He then attended Iowa State college in Ames, Iowa where he graduated with a degree in chemical engineering. During Ray's time in college, he met his wife Martha Antonia (Zimmermann) Novak. They were married July 4, 1953.
Ray and Martha lived in Madison where he worked for Rayovac before moving to Stoughton to work at U.S. Rubber corp. In 1960 they moved to Rhinelander where Ray worked at the Rhinelander Paper Company in research and development and pursued his hobbies of hunting and fishing. He passed along his love of the outdoors to all his children. After 33 years he retired, enjoying life at their lakeside home outside of Rhinelander. Raymond and Martha enjoyed traveling, camping, and being with their family.
Ray is survived by his wife of 69 years, Martha, and their seven children, Andrew (Peggy), Thomas (Cindy), Karen (George) Cobian, David (Dee), Joseph, James (Cari), and John (Debbie), 12 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and his beloved four-legged companion, Snoopy Two.
Ray will meet again with his parents and one grandson in heaven.
The visitation for Raymond will take place on Thursday morning, Aug. 11, 2022, at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church located at 125 E. King Street, from 11:30 a.m. until the 2 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Fr. Kevin Farrell will officiate.
Immediately following the mass, there will be a procession to Northland Memorial Park for the committal service.
