The Oneida County sheriff's office has released the name of the 34-year-old Town of Crescent man who was killed Monday evening in a fireworks-related accident.

According to a press release issued by captain Terri Hook, the sheriff's office dispatch center received a call at approximately 7:25 p.m. Monday reporting an explosion in a garage in the Town of Crescent.

"Upon arrival it was determined that Jared Houg was deceased from injuries sustained during the explosion," Hook said in a follow-up press release issued Wednesday morning. "It appears the explosion occurred while Houg was making fireworks in his garage. None of the ingredients at Houg's residence were illegal and Houg's actions were legal. This appears to be an accident. "

The Crescent Fire Department, Crescent First Responders, Rhinelander Fire Department, Newbold Fire Department, Oneida County Emergency Medical Services assisted the sheriff's office at the scene.

The Marathon County Bomb Squad also assisted in the investigation, according to the release.
