A convicted sex offender is scheduled to be released to community supervision, and will live in Rhinelander, the city police department announced Tuesday.

William G. Davis, 58, is scheduled to be released from prison on May 4 and will be residing at 17 W. Prospect Street, according to a police department press release.

"This notification is not intended to increase fear; rather, it is our belief that an informed public is a safer public," the release states. "Sex offenders have always lived in our communities; but it was not until the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry and Community Notification Law was enacted that law enforcement was able to share this information with the community."

Davis is described as about 5'7 and approximately 195 pounds. He has gray hair and hazel eyes.

According to court records, he is about to complete a 20-year prison sentence on charges including child enticement, repeated sexual assault of the same child, and second degree sexual assault of a child. The charges were filed in connection with incidents in both Oneida County and Racine County, according to court records.

Davis' target victims have been juvenile males between the ages of 10-14 years old, according to the police department press release.

He will be monitored by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections Probation and Parole Division, and local law enforcement, and will be subject to the conditions of the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry as a lifetime registrant, the release notes.

He has also been placed on lifetime GPS monitoring, according to the release.

If a citizen sees Davis engaging in concerning behavior including unapproved contact with a minor, they are encouraged to contact local law enforcement, the release states.

Please contact the Rhinelander Police Department (715) 365-5300 or the Oneida County Sheriff's Office Communications Center at (715) 361-5201.
