According to the NICA website, the award, "honors student athletes who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, sportsmanship, academic performance and volunteerism in their team, school and community."
Lester was the 2021 WHSCL varsity girls' state champion and helped lead the RNC team to the WHSCL Division 2 state championship. She won four of the five races in this year's WHSCL season.
"Megan currently races with the Rhinelander Northwoods Composite team, and has been involved with the NICA league in Wisconsin for six years," a NICA Facebook post announcing the award states. "She first started cycling when she was eight years old, along with following her other passions of snowboarding, hunting, and cross-country skiing.
In the post, Lester is quoted as saying, "participating in NICA has been the highlight of my four years of high school. It is something I am able to do with my family and friends. I have met so many amazing coaches, volunteers, and athletes from all over the region. My NICA experience is one that I will never forget!"
According to the post, Lester, a Three Lakes High School student, will attend Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo. this fall to continue cycling at the collegiate level.
