He was born on March 21, 1955, in Cudahy, to Marion and Grace Obukowicz. After graduating from Greenfield High School in 1973, Mark went on to earn his BS from UW Milwaukee, and in 1983, his MS/PhD in Plant Pathology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
He completed a post-doc at UW Madison where he met his future wife, Rosie. He went on to have a fulfilling career as a research biologist in St. Louis, Mo., retiring from Pfizer in 2010 after earning multiple patents in his research field. He remained an avid reader, life-long learner and critical thinker.
Mark and Rosie were married on December 30, 1983 in Madison. They went on to have two children, Luke and Lucy, and enjoyed family life in Kirkwood, Mo.
After retiring, Mark and Rosie moved to Three Lakes, and embraced life in the Northwoods. He loved year-round outdoor activities including bike riding, golfing, hiking, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing. Mark was especially passionate about '50s rock and roll and '60s classic muscle cars - you could catch him rocking out annually at the Winter Dance Party at the Surf Ballroom in Iowa! He was a fan of the College Baseball World Series and always cheered loudly for the Texas Longhorns. Hook 'em!
Mark was predeceased by his parents and brother Timothy (Marcia). He is survived by his beloved wife Rosie, children Luke (Melissa) and Lucy, brother Thomas (Karen), granddaughters Madelyn and Amelia, and countless other family and friends.
