Thursday, Sept. 16, 2021 was a big day for Rhinelander police officer Nathan Antilla, far right, as he learned the police and fire commission had voted unanimously that he had successfully completed his one-year probationary period and is now a full officer. RPD Chief Lloyd Gauthier, left, and PFC chairman Todd McEldowney spoke about how the native of Michigan's Upper Peninsula adapted right away to Rhinelander and the department. "As police chief, I can sleep at night knowing Nate is out there on patrol," Gauthier said. Antilla went to the same law enforcement training class at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Green Bay as RPD officer Marc Nylund, Gauthier noted. "He heard so much about our department from him (Nylund), he also applied," Gauthier said. The vacant detective sergeant position should be filled by one of three internal candidates by the end of the month, the chief added.
