Hodags' Smith announces UW-Superior commitment
"I am very excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and basketball career at UW-Superior!" Smith tweeted last Thursday. "I would like to thank (UW-Superior head) Coach (Greg) Polkowski for this opportunity and I would also like to thank my coaches, family and friends for their support!"
Smith, a 6-2 guard, earned honorable mention in the Great Northern Conference last year. He averaged 10.8 points per game and was second on the team with 3.4 assists per contest. Smith is the lone member of last year's starting five returning from last year's RHS boys' basketball squad, which went 14-6 overall, placed second in the GNC and bowed out to Medford in the regional final round of the WIAA Division 2 tournament.
Superior, an NCAA Division-III program, went 3-3 in a 2020-21 season that was truncated due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Yellowjackets were 16-10 overall in 2019-20, with a 13-3 record in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference.
