U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin, second from right, stopped in Rhinelander Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021, to meet with city, county and DNR officials and others concerned about PFAs contamination that has left municipal wells 7 and 8 idle for over two years. After looking at the wells in person, Baldwin held a roundtable listening session. She said there is federal funding coming to look into filtration and other aspects of remediating the "forever chemicals" if the House of Representatives passes the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act that has already cleared the Senate. She also said additional funding is being written into the $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation bill. She also announced that she has asked the EPA to consider partnering with Rhinelander to use wells 7 and 8 as a test site for ways to filter the chemicals out of the water. A full story on Baldwin's visit will be published in a future edition of The River News.
