Colombino selected for detective sergeant promotion
The vacancy was created when detective sergeant Josh Chiamulera was promoted to captain earlier this year. That position became vacant in the summer of 2020, when captain Ron Lueneburg retired after several decades on the force.
PFC chairman Todd McEldowney said Colombino's promotion is effective immediately.
"It's subject to a six-month probationary period," he added.
The next search will be for someone to be promoted into Colombino's road sergeant position.
"Under the promotion process, there is a 90-day period from the posting to the time that it has to be filled. So obviously, we'll be doing our due diligence once we get the candidates, but the next order of business is for Chief (Lloyd) Gauthier to post the position," McEldowney said.
Once the entire promotion process shakes out, the RPD will be seeking another patrol officer.
McEldowney also noted that the two candidates who were not selected gained some valuable experience in the process.
"It's not just a matter of going through the interviewing process, which is educational for us, but it's also educational for the candidates," he said. "It just makes them better candidates in the future because they will have the experience to prepare an interview with us."
