At the age of 12, Bill moved to Copper Harbor, Mich. and graduated from Calumet High School in 1949. After high school he married his wife of 68 years, Patricia Krause, on Oct. 17, 1953 in Lake Linden, Mich. Bill joined the United States Army in 1954 and was stationed in Alaska for two years. Upon completing his military service he moved back to Michigan and in 1963 he completed his Bachelors of Science degree in Forestry from Michigan Tech University. Bill and Patricia moved to Rhinelander in 1963 and he started his employment with the Department of Natural Resources in Rhinelander where he stayed till his retirement in 1991.
Bill enjoyed many activities with his family including hunting, fishing, camping, and boating. He was also certified by the Coast Guard to operate passenger vessels on all of the Great Lakes but Lake Superior held a special place in his heart. Bill loved his family most of all and made sure they were always included in everything he did.
Bill is survived by his wife Patricia of Rhinelander, sons James (Jean) Wood of Rhinelander, Timothy Wood of Minocqua, Thomas (Bobbie Sue) Wood of Houghton, Mich., daughter-in-law Jolie Wood of Mosinee, grandchildren Andrew, Kevin, Joshua, Daniel, Benjamin, Joseph, Anna; great-grandchildren William and Jocelyn; brother Jack Wood, other family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his infant son Michael, son Ronald, and sister Patricia.
