Tri-County Council planning vigils, chalk walk in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month
The Tri-County Council on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Lily's House is the designated agency for Oneida, Vilas and Forest counties, to provide advocacy services and support for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
The organization is planning several activities this month in observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
"In October, we reach out to our communities to help us raise awareness of these on-going crimes, to focus on justice for the perpetrators, and to show victims that they are not alone," Tri-County officials explained in a press release. "There is help available."
To raise awareness in our community, Tri-County Council is sponsoring the following events:
• Friday, Oct. 8: Candlelight Vigil for Hannah Miller, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Trig's Green Space
• Saturday, Oct. 16: "The Shoe Project," art installation, representing the 2020 victims of DV homicide in Wisconsin, Pioneer Park
• Saturday, Oct. 23: Chalk Walk, 2 to 4 p.m., Davenport and Brown streets
Friday, Oct. 29: "Remember My Name" Candlelight Vigil for 2020 victims of DV homicide in Wisconsin, Oneida County Courthouse, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Community members are invited to directly participate in the Oct. 29 vigil by reading a victim name. We will need approximately 60 people, but all are invited to come and light a candle with us, the release states.
