Local man charged with burglary of Lincoln Street business
By River News Staff-
David Michael Brogli is charged with theft of movable property between $5,000 and $10,000, burglary of a building or dwelling and possession of THC (2nd+ offense). He appeared before circuit judge Michael Bloom on Nov. 3 at which time bond was set. An adjourned initial appearance was also scheduled for Nov. 22.
According to police reports attached to the criminal complaint, Rhinelander police responded to the business just after 10 p.m. on Nov. 1 after the employee who opened for the day noticed missing items.
The employee told police that money, merchandise and two laptop computers were missing. When the manager arrived, he was able to retrieve video footage from the security cameras and provide a copy to police. According to the reports, the recordings showed that the person had entered the store at about 5 a.m. and was inside for almost 40 minutes.
Security recordings from a nearby business showed the same man there before the burglary. When still photos of the suspect were shown around to other nearby businesses, the man was identified as Brogli, the reports say.
By around noon on Nov. 1, police had traced Brogli's last known residence to Frederick Place, but staff there say he had been asked to leave the shelter late in the evening of Oct. 31. However, he had left his personal items there, and when he returned to get them around 2 p.m. staff alerted police.
The police reports say that Brogli admitted to entering the business and loading up several trash bags with items. He then used some of the money he stole to rent a hotel room. The report said Brogli took investigators to where he had the rest of the money and some of the merchandise in the hotel room, and where he had hid the rest of the merchandise.
While searching his personal effects, police also allegedly found about 3 grams of a substance that later tested positive for THC.
If convicted of all three felony charges, and given the maximum sentences concurrently, Brogli faces up to 21 1/2 years behind bars.
