Nicolet students responded to a dispatch call during a staged emergency scenario at the college Wednesday, Oct 20, 2021. Pictured: EMS students help "the patient" into an ambulance before taking him to the White Pine Center on campus. Nicolet held the training exercise to bring together students from several different academic areas who would have to work together during an actual emergency. The simulation began in the Field on campus with a person simulating being both suicidal and intoxicated. Law Enforcement students started the scenario by responding to the scene to assess and secure the situation. Once the scene was declared safe, EMS students assessed the health of the individual and provided initial treatment. The individual was then transported by Nicolet ambulance to the Nursing Lab in the White Pine Center where nursing students continued to provide medical care. Once the patient was deemed stable, Substance Use Disorder Counseling (formerly AODA) students were called in to create a treatment plan for the patient and start case management. The goal of the simulation was to have students from the different professions work effectively with each other with clear and concise communication at each stage of this real-world scenario.
