Franson started running a new event, steeplechase, in 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic hit and canceled the Panthers' season. The 3-kilometer race includes a number of low hurdle jumps where runners have to splash through a small pond. Franson picked it up again this year, running a couple events this spring.
She excelled with a fourth-place finish in the Horizon League championships with a time of 11 minutes, 9.80 seconds -which put her third fastest all-time in UW-Milwaukee history, roughly 12.5 seconds off the school record set by Abby Hurst in 2002.
Franson also had a strong outing on April 17 in Terre Haute, Ind., at the Gibson Invitational and made podium with third-place finish with time of 11:21:82.
