The long weekend that begins today is about far more than kicking off another summer season. The true purpose is to honor those Americans who gave their lives protecting our freedoms. Oneida County will observe Memorial Day with a ceremony scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday at Mike Webster Stadium in Rhinelander. Other services honoring the fallen include a 11:30 a.m. Saturday observance at the Union Grove Cemetery in Harshaw as well as brief services Monday morning at Newbold Cemetery, Northland Memorial Park, Forest Home Cemetery and Nativity of Our Lord Cemetery.
