Jim was born on Oct. 2, 1936 to Harlan and Mildred Suffield in Peoria, Ill.
After graduating high school in Peoria, Jim joined the U.S. Navy and served three years as a Tin Can Sailor.
Upon his honorable discharge, Jim returned to Peoria to attend Bradley University, earning his BA, MA and teaching degree.
Jim married his wife, Sally (Hartman) of Peoria in 1961 prior to beginning his teaching career in Freeport, Ill. Jim and Sally moved to Rhinelander in 1967 where he taught Industrial Arts at Rhinelander High School, retiring in 1991.
Jim is survived by his wife Sally of Rhinelander and two sons, Dan of River Falls and Tom of Minocqua; three brothers, Bill of Cary, Ill., Joe of Peoria, Ill. and Dave of Washington, Ill.
Jim's hobbies included repairing and building wooden boats, hunting, fishing and historical fur trade reenactments.
He was an active member of the Rhinelander Masonic Lodge and volunteer, serving the local community and passed knowing he served humanity well.
Services were held on Saturday, May 22, 2021 beginning at 11:30 a.m. with Military Honors conducted by the Ray Rousseau V.F.W. Post 3143 Rhinelander with Masonic Lodge Services following.
