Rita graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1948. She remained very close with her class and loved all of the reunions. On Sept. 3, 1949, she married Doug Chariton Sr. and they started their family.
Rita worked as a telephone operator until they closed the office in 1976. Too early to retire, she continued to work at Book World until she finally found the work she would love taking care of the elderly by cleaning their homes and making them good things to eat.
She loved going to Squash Lake with her best friends, Donna and Eddy, and of course all the kids. A few trips a year to the casino would always entertain her. Rita loved her friends and loved to entertain them with dinner parties. Cooking and reading recipes were her favorite things to do, always having something available to share with her guests. The kitchen was her special place. Canning her famous pickles and beans, planting flowers, and never ever throw anything out are things we will always remember.
Rita will always be remembered by her children, Marcia (Doug) Weight, Doug (Gail) Chariton Jr., John (Beth) Chariton, and Lisa Sugrue. She was proud of all of her 9 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
She will be joining her husband Doug Sr., daughter Gayle, sister Marge, brother Jim, her parents and many friends in heaven.
The family would like to thank all of the wonderful Hospice workers. You are absolutely wonderful! Also thank you to Helping Hands, the many hours you helped were greatly appreciated by all of us.
