A couple of months following the conclusion of an unusual season, the Rhinelander High School Nordic ski team gathered for a season-ending celebration at the Cedric A. Vig Outdoor Classroom Wednesday, May 12.

Nine members of the team were honored with varsity letters. Pictured, from left to right, are Liana Teter, Callie Threlkeld, Anna Wood, Travis White, Megan Lester and Daniel Goldsworthy. Letterwinners Abbey Henrichs, Gwyn Lowry and Sam Rutkowski were unavailable for the photograph.

Due to poor trail conditions, inclement weather and COVID-19 concerns, the Hodags raced only four times during the 2020-21 season, culminating with the WNSL state championships in Cable March 6 and 7. The Hodag girls' team placed three skiers in the top 40 overall and placed eighth out of 11 teams in the field while the Hodag boys finished 11th in a field of 15.

"It was truly a challenge, but everyone here really stepped up to the plate - and I mean that in terms of the skiers and the parents and the coaches. That was awesome," RHS Nordic ski coach Charil Reis said during last Wednesday's banquet. "A lot of the lessons that you'll have learned through this season and through COVID, just having a season in these strange conditions are going to stick with you the rest of your life - the good things will."
