"The WBCA recognizes both teams and individuals who have achieved great success in the classroom," the organization announced in a press release. "To be recognized, WBCA member coaches were required to nominate their player(s) and/or team."
Lamers and Lawrence were part of an elite group of student athletes to make the list - only 15 boys and 15 girls received WBCA Academic All-State honors. According to WBCA records, the two are only the fourth and fifth players in RHS history to receive the award - joining Becky Knutson (1995), Marshall Watry (2003) and Katrina Gehrig (2009).
"It is well deserved and great to see a student athlete of Quinn's caliber receive this honor," RHS boys' basketball coach Derek Lemmens said. "It speaks volumes for his discipline, commitment to excellence, and sacrifices that he has made to be a great student and great all around athlete. Quinn embodies what a student athlete should be and has been a great representative for our team, school, and community."
Regarding Lawrence, RHS girls' basketball coach Ryan Clark stated, "As a coach, Rebecca is one of those players that come through the program once every 10 years. She had all of the qualities: athletic, hard-working, high character, leadership skills, kind, humble, team-first mentality, multi-sport athlete, very good basketball player, and 4.0+ G.P.A. As the face of our program, she was a great role model for the underclassmen and our youth players. It was an honor to be her coach and I can't thank her enough for her integrity as a young lady."
Both Lamers and Lawrence were unanimous first-team All-Great Northern Conference selections for the Hodags this winter, and Lawrence was selected to take part in the WBCA Division 2 All-Star Game, which will take place Wednesday, July 14 in Wisconsin Dells.
