Ella Schiek was back for the Rhinelander High School girls' soccer team on Friday night, and so was the Hodags' potent offense.

After leaving last Tuesday's game against Kingsford with an apparent knee injury, Schiek scored four goals in her return to the field and the Hodags routed Antigo 11-0 in Great Northern Conference play at Mike Webster Stadium.

The senior forward now has 12 goals on the season in only five games. The only game she hasn't scored multiple goals was last Tuesday's game against the Flivvers, when a collision in the 23rd minute knocked her out of the Hodags' 1-0 defeat.

Schiek was back with a goal in the second minute on Friday, and the Hodags never looked back, building a 9-0 halftime lead against the winless Red Robins.

"She's been working it all week since she got injured on Tuesday," RHS girls' soccer coach Nathan Bates said. "She's been listening, thank gosh, and she came out tonight. We played her, took her out, played her, took her out, just to check on her and make sure she's doing good, but everything looks good and she had a great game."

Ava Lamers added three goals and four assists for the Hodags and Aubrey Younker scored twice as the game was called after 60 minutes due to the 10-goal mercy rule.

Schiek and Lamers handled the early scoring, as both found the back of the net twice over the first 10:09 of the game as the Hodags jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Younker added her first goal in the 14th minute and Schiek completed her hat trick in the 25th minute.

Kat Metropulos scored in the 31st minute, Lamers netted her third in the 33rd minute and Gwyn Lowry scored in the 41st minute as the Hodags built a nine-goal halftime advantage.

"We've been working a lot of things at practice and they came out and executed everyone of them. They did really good," Bates said. "It was a fun game. They went out there. They were classy and, on top of that, we were able to play some of the JV players and some of the players that don't get as much opportunity throughout the season. It was a good game all around."

Schiek scored once more less than two minutes into the second and Younker rounded out the scoring in the 54th minute. The goals Tuesday were the first two in the sophomore's varsity career.

"Aubrey was in position every single time for that drop ball and she executed both times," Bates said. "She was able to put them right in from the spot she was supposed to be in."

Antigo failed to register a single shot in the contest. Kahlie Arneson started in goal but gave way to Lily Berger midway through the first half. Arneson subbed in as a position player and contributed assists on Rhinelander's final two goals of the opening half.

"She was bugging me about it at practice that she wanted to get on the field this season," Bates said. "The way the opportunity presented itself tonight we were able to do that, which is fun."

The Hodags took 47 shots in the game, 24 of which were on goal.

Things get much more difficult for Rhinelander (3-1-1, 2-0-1-0 Great Northern) this week, as it squares off against the first- and third-place teams in the GNC back-to-back. The Hodags are on the road at conference-leading Ashland this afternoon before coming home to take on Lakeland Thursday evening.

"It's going to be a tough week," Bates said. "You've got two tough teams back-to-back, competition-wise. We're going to go out there and do what we can do. It's all you can do. We're going to try our best against Ashland. They've been routing everybody all season so far. We've got a pretty decent game plan going into it. We'll see what happens."
