Preliminary hearing set for local woman accused of sexual assault, contributing to the delinquency of minors

Stacy Mae Melby was charged with the two Class C felonies, as well as four misdemeanor counts of contributing to the delinquency of a child, on May 7. She made an adjourned initial appearance on May 13 with her attorney Gary Cirilli via Zoom before circuit judge Michael Bloom. After Cirilli waived the statutory time limit for holding a preliminary examination, Bloom scheduled the hearing for June 2.
According to the criminal complaint filed in the case, on April 30 Rhinelander police received a report that Melby was "giving juveniles drugs and alcohol and allowing them to have sexual contact in her home."
The complaint states three juveniles, two 15-year-olds and a 17-year-old, told police they had consumed alcohol and vaped tobacco with Melby. One of the juveniles also reported having sexual contact with Melby.
In an interview with police, Melby denied "selling" marijuana to any juveniles, but confirmed that juveniles would smoke "carts" (an electronic vaping or smoking device that contains THC or marijuana) when in her home. Initially, she denied having sexual contact with juveniles before admitting to having intercourse with one individual "once or twice."
The complaint also notes that Det. Sgt. Parish of the Rhinelander Police Department located text messages on Melby's phone that "confirmed sexual relationships and drug use between and/or with Ms. Melby and several juveniles."
Melby is currently free on a $10,000 cash bond.
As conditions of bond, Melby is prohibited from having any contact with anyone under 18, with the exception of her own children. She is also prohibited from leaving Oneida County and may not possess or use prescription medications or controlled substances without a valid prescription.
If convicted of all charges, Melby could spend the rest of her life in prison.
According to the district attorney's office, Melby's license to operate her child care center, Stacy's Shining Stars, has been suspended or revoked by the state licensing agency.
