Hodags' Skeen selected to play in WBCA All-Star Game
The WBCA announced its rosters for the two-day event late last week with Skeen earning a spot on the Division 2 Red roster, which will battle the D2 White team.
Skeen averaged 14.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game for the Hodags this season, while making 45.8% of his 3-points shots. He's the first Hodag player to be selected to play in the All-Star Game since Owen White in 2018.
Skeen is one of three Great Northern Conference players on the D2 Red roster, along with Medford's Peyton Kuhn and Mosinee's Cyle Kowalski. All three were unanimous first-team All-GNC selections this past season.
The WBCA All-Star Game event will take place July 14 and 15 at JustAGame Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells. The girls' All-Star games, beginning with Division 5 and ending with Division 1, will take place July 14, with the boys' All-Star games taking place on July 15. The event is a fundraiser for the MACC (Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer) Fund. According to the WBCA's website, it has contributed more than $2.2 million to the MACC Fund since 1978.
The event is typically held in mid-June but was pushed back this year to accommodate the later finish of the WIAA spring sports season. Rhinelander girls' players Kenedy Van Zile and Cynthia Beavers, and head coach Ryan Clark were all scheduled to participate in last year's event, which was eventually canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
