Northwood Golf Club gearing up for 2021 season

By By Kyle Christian-

Despite the worst pandemic in modern history, Northwood Golf Club had a successful 2020 season. While many areas in the business sector suffered, golf became a safe haven for outdoor activity. From coast-to-coast, golfers sought to spend as much time outside as possible on the golf course.

The season for Northwood started with a May 1 opening. The first month was far and away the most unique as the COVID-19 restrictions restricted customers from entering the clubhouse and dining was prohibited. As the restrictions became more commonplace and understood, the management team was able to pivot and provide a great golf experience that included more flexible food and beverage options. The golf course was in superb shape for the entire season and customers continued to play the course until there was snow on the ground. Intelligent expense controls, and flexible hospitality options were key contributors to superb positive financial results and happy customers.

We are excited that the 2021 golf season is shaping up to be another great year. Outings that had to cancel in 2020 are coming back in 2021. On June 6, the "Bill Miller Memorial Golf Scramble" will kick-off the list of outings. This outing benefits the Northwoods Alliance Temporary Housing (NATH-Frederick Place). On June 12, the "Camp Ryan Adams" Outing will be back again after missing last season. This great tournament is to facilitate the emotional healing of disabled and wounded individuals and their families with special emphasis on US Military Veterans. On June 18, the "Camp Luther" Outing will be back. Camp LutherĀ is a year-round Christian camp in Three LakesĀ serving youth, families, and adults through camps and retreats. Other events such as the Veterans Golf Association, Northwood Open, Hopkins Outing, and Eagle Open will also take place in 2021. We're open for additional outings to make your experience at Northwood great!

A new, exciting Men's League will be playing on Monday Night called 'Town Pump East Division.' There is already one Men's League on Monday called the 'Knights of Columbus' and now will have two leagues participating. Tuesday will remain the Ladies League which has consistently grown each year. Wednesday will have the Rhinelander Men's League and Thursday will be the Rhinelander Paper Mill League.

Last but not least, in 2021 the Junior Mini Camp and Junior League will return this year after canceling due to the pandemic. As always, the goal will be to introduce the game of golf to new juniors and help out junior golfers who want to improve their golf swing and course etiquette. The Whipsaw Bar and Grill will reopen along with the golf course featuring a new outdoor grilling station. As with pre-pandemic, the bar and restaurant will be open daily for golf leagues and public play. The beverage cart will be running each day to provide and serve on-course food and beverage. Golf memberships are/will be available.

We very much look forward to seeing area residents and visitors. If you have any questions please contact General Manager, Kyle Christian at 715-282-6565. Let's all hope for an early spring!
