Following high school, she attended the Milwaukee Institute of Technology where she obtained her degree to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. Afterwards, she met August Sommers to whom she was married for many years. Together, they had five children. In the early 1960s, the family relocated to Woodruff. While residing there, they briefly owned and operated a Standard Oil gas station (Lois refused to refuel her own vehicle after this business endeavor). Ultimately, Lois and her family settled down in Rhinelander. Lois was employed at St. Mary's Hospital where she worked with hospitalized pediatric patients, then in the medical records department up until her retirement.
Lois lived her life to the fullest. She had many hobbies which included roller skating, bowling, fishing, traveling, dancing, going to the senior center, and watching the Hallmark Channel. For her 60th birthday, she went skydiving. She enjoyed it so much that she decided to go again for her 80th birthday. Proof that age was just a number to her. Lois was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 431 in Three Lakes.
Years after her late husband August passed away in 1985, she met Lloyd Kasmarek. Lois gained an even larger family and she loved them as if they were her own. They both loved Polka and dancing! Lois and Lloyd spent over 10 years together up until his passing in 2005.
Lois is survived by her children Janeane (Albert Sr.) Klaver, JoAnne (John) Mixis, Judy (Brian) Bloomquist, and Robert Sommers. In addition, she had several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lois had many friends and touched the hearts of everyone she encountered.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, spouses, infant son John, and her special furry friends, Luke and Teddy.
Due to current events, there will be a private service at this time. A public memorial service will take place at a later date. Lois' family wishes to thank Country Terrace and Aspirus Hospice for their assistance.
