Alfred "Bucky" Houg
Alfred was born Sept. 23, 1934, in Ironwood, Mich., to Alfred Houg, Sr. and Esther (Edwardson) Houg. As a young child they moved to Rhinelander.
He met the love of his life, Mary Jean Roepcke, they married on Oct. 30, 1954, started a family, having four children and enjoying 66 years of marriage.
Alfred proudly served his country in the United States Army, serving his country from 1953-1954 and being an active member in the Korean War. He worked at the Rhinelander Paper Mill as the head electrician until retiring in 1997. He enjoyed traveling to many places, especially Arizona where he and Mary would spend their winters.
Alfred loved sports, especially the Green Bay Packers. He would talk about attending the Ice Bowl and getting a piece of the goal post and was a season ticket holder for over five decades. He also enjoyed golfing almost every day. He loved gardening and took much pride in his tomato plants each year.
He is survived by his four children: David (Loni) Houg, Kathryn (Keven) Schumacher, Thomas (Kari) Houg, and Michael (Lori) Houg, all of Rhinelander; five grandchildren: Angela (Bruce) Knapp, Andrew (Cierra) Houg, Justin (Melissa) Houg, Jacob (Jessica) Houg and Jared Houg; seven great-grandchildren: Codie, Alexandria, David, Emma, Jase, Maive and Finley; his brother James (Margie) Houg of Three Lakes and numerous other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Maryellen (Guldan) Larsen of Green Bay.
At Alfred's request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. There will be a Celebration of Life to be announced at a later date.
