The Hodags batted around twice and rolled to a 20-4 win over Lakeland in Prep League play at Rhinelander High School while Laser Pros International used a 10-run fourth inning to rout Lakeland Black 13-1 in Senior League play at Stafford Field.
Rhinelander took advantage of some wild Lakeland pitching in the Prep League game. The team drew six walks over the first two innings to jump out to a 12-0 lead. The Hodag bats took over in the third, cranking out eight hits as part of an eight-run frame.
Hunter Bell, Dylan VanderBunt and Caden Sieker all walked and scored in the first inning. Bell and VanderBunt crossed on wild pitches while James Webb singled home Sieker to make it 3-0.
The first seven batters of the Rhinelander second all reached base and scored -which included RBI hits from Landon Webster, Cyrus Leisure and Mason Schmidt. Ben Olson added an RBI single for the Hodags later in the inning.
The Hodags got five hits with their first six batters of the third inning, including a double by Webster and RBI singles by Connor Terzinski and Leisure. Bell, Sieker and Webb added run-scoring singles later in the inning.
Two pitchers combined to no-hit Lakeland in the contest. VanderBunt struck out six and walked two over two scoreless innings. Olson had six walks and a couple of hit batters in the third and fourth, which allowed Lakeland to score its runs, but struck out five to secure a victory in a game that was called in the middle of fourth after reaching the Prep League's 1-hour, 45-minute time limit.
Laser Pros 13, Lakeland Black 1
After surrendering a run in the top of the first inning, it was all Laser Pros in the nightcap on Friday. After single runs in each of the first three innings, Laser Pros erupted for 10 in the fourth to beat Lakeland Black 13-1.
Things really started falling Laser Pros way as a dropped third strike, an error and a walk loaded the bases with nobody out in the fourth, and chased Lakeland starter Leonard Chosa from the hill. After Seth Nofftz reached on an error that drove in a run, a balk allowed Will Gretzinger to score. Kaden Vanney added a two-run single two batters later. Another balk allowed Max Ratty to score.
Sam Schoppe drew a two-out bases loaded walk to force in another run before Andrew Eckrich scored on a wild pitch. The inning continued as Lakeland was not able to retire Schoppe at third on a fielder's choice by Mason Baker, allowing Jackson Freese to score. Schoppe then scored on a wild pitch before an RBI single by Gretzinger.
Lakeland's lone run came in the first as Javeon Zimmerman walked and scored on a Chosa sacrifice fly. The Hodags tied the game in the first as Truman Lamers walked and scored on an Oscar Hanson sacrifice fly. Kyril Vanney walked and came around on Kaden Vanney's grounder in the second. Freeze reached on an error in the third, stole second and scored on a Schoppe ground out.
Gretzinger allowed a run on a hit with three walks and four strikeouts over three innings to earn the win. Kaden Vanney worked the final two innings scoreless, allowing a hit with three walks and three strikeouts.
