There was plenty of work to do considering that, between the two teams, there were 20 new pool, varsity and conference records established last season.
Record-breaking members of the teams took turns peeling old records off the board and replacing them with the new ones.
"There are some years where we don't update the record board at all, so it's a really an honor for all of you that you're up there," Hodag swim coach Jenny Heck told the team during Wednesday's ceremony. "If you're not up there, I want you to make sure you look up there and think 'How can I be a part of this?' It's a great honor. Some of you will be on here for many, many years."
Five new varsity records were set during the 2020-21 season including the:
• Girls' 200-yard freestyle - Abi Winnicki, 1 minute, 54.99 seconds;
• Girls' 100 butterfly - Malia Francis, 55.96;
• Girls' 100 freestyle - Abi Winnicki, 53.28;
• Girls' 200 freestyle relay - Noelle St. Pierre, Abi Winnicki, Karis Francis, Malia Francis, 1:38.03 and
• Girls' 400 freestyle relay - Genna Fugle, Abi Winnicki, Makenna Winnicki, Malia Francis, 3:35.80.
Additionally, nine new Heck Pool records were established:
• Boys' 200 medley relay - Carter Gaber, Jack Antonuk, Gavin Ostermann, Charlie Heck, 1:41.81;
• Girls' 200 medley relay - Lisa Kennedy, St. Pierre, Makenna Winnicki, Karis Francis, 1:50.30;
• Girls' 200 freestyle - Abi Winnicki, 1:55.38;
• Girls' 100 butterfly - Malia Francis, 56.58;
• Boys' 200 freestyle relay - Daniel Gillingham, Antonuk, Charlie Heck, Joseph Heck, 1:29.39;
• Girls' 200 freestyle relay - Karis Francis, Abi Winnicki, St. Pierre, Malia Francis, 1:39.43;
• Girls' 100 backstroke - Malia Francis, 55.87;
• Boys' 400 freestyle relay - Gillingham, Marcus O'Malley, Charlie Heck, Joseph Heck, 3:20.57 and
• Girls' 400 freestyle relay - Fugle, Makenna Winnicki, Abi Winnicki, Malia Francis, 3:43.03.
The Hodag girls' swim team also established six new Great Northern Conference records during last October's virtual conference meet:
• 200 medley relay - Kennedy, St. Pierre, Makenna Winnicki, Karis Francis, 1:52.49;
• 200 freestyle - Malia Francis, 1:56.31;
• 100 butterfly - Malia Francis, 58.01;
• 100 freestyle - Abi Winnicki, 53.58;
• 200 freestyle relay - Fugle, Abi Winnicki, St. Pierre, Malia Francis, 1:40.33;
• 400 freestyle relay - Fugle, Makenna Winnicki, Abi Winnicki, Malia Francis, 3:43.13.
Malia Francis' conference record in the 100 butterfly is shared with her older sister, Kiah, who set the record in 2015 during the GNC meet at Antigo -the only meter pool in the conference. Kiah Francis' converted time in the event was 57.88 seconds and, because it is faster than the short course yards record in the event, the GNC recognizes both record times.
