Rush-hour traffic Friday morning, July 23, 2021, was complicated by a one-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 8 just west of the boat landing at Crescent Lake. According to the Oneida County sheriff's spokesperson on the scene, just before the eastbound vehicle entered the curve, the driver veered to the left for some unknown reason, crossed the centerline and went into the ditch on the westbound side of the highway. The vehicle traveled about 60 feet before coming to a rest when it struck a couple of trees. The driver was able to exit the vehicle, but members of the Crescent Volunteer Fire Department had to cut one of the trees off of the car and cut down another tree that was damaged by the impact. The driver and lone occupant suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
