Veterans on Water bass tournament to celebrate fifth year
By Beckie Gaskill-bjoki@lakelandtimes.com
The event is free to veterans, with the tournament anglers paying the entry fee. Most anglers have equipment veterans can use, but many vets also bring their own rods, reels and tackle.
Each team works together to bring their heaviest five fish to the scales at the end of the day. Both largemouth bass and smallmouth bass are targets of the day. All state fishing regulations apply. Teams will fish from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Donations have come from many area businesses as well as individuals who want to help with the tournament. The teams will be vying for cash and other prizes as well as bragging rights for another year.
Many veterans fish with the same angler every year and have built strong friendships over the past few years. All are welcome to participate. Boaters will pay the $100 entry fee. Veterans fish for free.
Anyone looking to get involved in the tournament can contact tournament organizer Kris Hanes at 715-216-2473 or search Facebook for the Veterans on Water event for this year.
Hanes is also still accepting donations for the tournament.
