After playing to a tie earlier this season, there was no doubt which Rhinelander-based Northwoods Babe Ruth Senior League team was better on Sunday night.

Rhinelander Green exploded for 12 runs in the second and third innings and routed Laser Pros International 12-2 to begin the final week of the season at Stafford Field.

Laser Pros led 1-0 after one inning after Sam Schoppe walked and scored on an error, but things began to take a dramatic turn in Rhinelander Green's favor beginning in the second.

After Sam Schneider led off the bottom half of the inning with a walk, Owen Kurtz, Tyler Morrison and Owen Ives strung together three straight RBI singles to put the Green team ahead. Ives would later score to make it 4-1 on an errant throw back to third.

Laser Pros errors loomed large in the third as the first three Rhinelander Green batters - Reid Schultz, Connor Augustine and Noah Bell - all reached on defensive misplays, with Schultz scoring on Bell's grounder. Delaino Zivko then laid down a bunt single to load the bases before Laser Pros threw out Augustine at home trying to score on a wild pitch. Dresden Klaver then hit a two-run single up the middle to make it 7-1.

Rhinelander Green would eventually load the bases again with two out, and Schneider cleared them with a three-run triple to right center. He would later score on a balk, and four straight walks would force in another run to make it 12-1.

Schoppe reached on an error and scored on a wild pitch in the fourth, but Laser Pros was unable to come up with any more runs to avoid the game ending in the fifth via the 10-run rule.

Rhinelander Green had hits from six different players in the contest, while Laser Pro's lone hit was a double by Max Ratty in the fourth.

Schneider started and went four innings for Rhinelander Green, allowing two unearned runs on a hit with six strikeouts. Alex Rappley struck out the side for Rhinelander Green in a 1-2-3 fifth inning.

Kaden Vanney took the loss for Laser Pros, allowing 11 runs, but only four earned, on six hits over 2 2/3 innings. He was relieved by Oscar Hanson, who walked four straight batters before giving way to Mason Baker. Baker struck out three and walked one over the final 1 1/3 innings.

Rhinelander Green vs. Lakeland Gray

Rhinelander Green stuck with league-leading Lakeland Gray for a couple of innings on Tuesday night, but did not have enough firepower and eventually fell 15-4.

An eight-run fourth inning proved to be the difference as Lakeland had eight straight players reach safely with two outs.

Rhinelander gave up two runs in the first but got one of those back in the bottom of the inning as Adrian Patrone walked and scored all the way from second on a Cody Everson sacrifice bunt. The team would not score again until the fourth when Everson doubled to drive in Patrone, followed by an RBI triple from Schneider. Schneider later scored on a throwing error.

Bell had Rhinelander's only other hit in the game.

Rappley started and went 3 2/3 innings, allowing seven runs on six hits with four walks and three strikeouts. Everson, Ives and Kaeden Piller also pitched the season finale as Rhinelander Green ended the year fourth in the Senior League standings with a 6-5-1 record.

Ending the season

Sunday's game ended up being the last of the season for Laser Pros, which forfeited its game to Crandon on Monday due to low numbers, and had a make-up game scheduled for Thursday against Tomahawk canceled. Laser Pros finishes the year 3-7-1.

In Prep League play, Rhinelander Gray (6-6) is scheduled to finish its season tonight in a make-up game at league champion Three Lakes.
