Upon Elmer's honorable discharge he returned to Rhinelander and was employed by Burkhardt farms. He then went to work for Cleary's and then Morning Glory Dairies as a milkman until retiring in 2000. He married Lexine Jolin on May 14, 1982 and they were blessed with 39 years of marriage.
Elmer enjoyed traveling, gambling and spending time with his family. He had a great sense of humor and was known for his jokes and well-thought-out pranks, earning his nickname "Trouble".
Elmer is survived by his wife Lexine, his daughters Denise and Karen Gauthier, his sons Phillip and Bruce Gauthier, his grandchildren Lucas (Rachel) Tucci, Alyson (Aidan) Jarvis, Ben, Michelle and Nicole Gauthier, his great-grandson Dylan Tucci, nieces, nephews and his dog Ruby. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Margaret, Agnes and Evelyn and his brothers Ruben, Harold and Lloyd.
