Dee was born in Des Moines, Iowa on June 5, 1936 to Harold and Gladys (Jones) Schuttler. At the age of five the family moved to California where they lived for a short period of time until moving to Merrill. In 1954, Dee graduated from Merrill High School. She then attended and graduated from a teachers college in Merrill. She met her future husband, Andrew Alsteen, in early 1961 and three months later the couple were married at First United Methodist Church in Rhinelander on June 3, 1961. The couple lived in Merrill for awhile and then moved to Rockford, Ill. in 1961. They lived in Rockford for the next 14 years. During this time Dee was employed as a teacher with the Rockford School District and later with the United States Postal Service. In 1975 the family moved to Rhinelander where they have lived ever since. She was employed with the Oneida County Social Service Department located at the courthouse and later was employed at the Eagle River Nursing Home retiring in 1998.
Dee had been a member of Calvary Baptist Church and most recently Dee has been attending Pine Grove Community Church.
Dee enjoyed fishing, camping, spending time with her family, joking around and her cats.
She will be dearly missed by her husband Andrew; children, Daniel Lee (Sandy) Alsteen of Rhinelander, Kathleen Holewinski of Rhinelander; four grandchildren: Stephanie, Andrew and Kathryn Alsteen and Kristen Holewinski and two great-grandchildren, Lukas and Hayleigh Alsteen. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law Rick Holewinski, two brothers, Wayne Schuttler and LeRoy Schuttler, and one sister, Kathleen Schuttler.
At Dee's request, there will be no visitation or service. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
