Lassig named city clerk after 20 years in fire and inspection
Lassig, who is a Rhinelander native, joined the fire and inspection department right after the two departments merged in 2000.
When Foley announced her retirement, Lassig said she was intrigued with the idea of moving into the position.
"I wanted something new, something challenging, something different," she said. "And it is very challenging."
Although she officially became clerk on Jan. 11, Lassig said she had "very little" time to shadow Foley before she departed. She said she has Foley's contact information if she has any pressing questions.
"Val wouldn't let me sink or swim," she said with a laugh. "She did give me her number."
Lassig said she has started training through the Wisconsin Municipal Clerks' Association.
"I'm also in the process of going through WisVote for elections and things," she said. "I'm currently being trained in all that."
The first election she will be responsible for running will be the Feb. 16 primary.
"I believe the only thing on the ballot, because we haven't received the ballots yet, is state superintendent of schools," Lassig said. "Because there is a certain number, we have to have a primary."
She noted that with her work with the planning commission, she has become familiar with the senior city leadership over the years, which has helped with the transition to her new job.
"I look forward to my new position and a new chapter," Lassig said.
