Alan was born Jan. 12, 1941, in Berwyn, Ill., to Chester and June (Anderson) Nelson.
He was raised on a farm in Aniwa, where he attended a one-room country school from 1st through 8th grades.
He graduated from Wausau Senior High School in 1958, worked for a few years, then joined the Navy in 1963 for a tour of duty during the Korean War.
After his service, he attended UW-Whitewater, where he graduated magna cum laude with his B. A. in Business Education in 1968 and was a member of Pi Omega Pi (an Honorary Business Society). He also received a master's degree from UW Whitewater.
Alan started teaching at Nicolet College in 1970 in the Business division and spent his entire career there until he retired in 2004.
In 1974, Alan married Carol (Gaspar) and together they had a son Gregg. Unfortunately, Carol preceded Alan into death in 2006. In 2008, Alan married Donna S. Corey, and together they remained living in the Rhinelander area. Alan loved to golf, play ping-pong, bridge, chat with family and friends, and create beautiful crafts with his scroll saw.
Alan is preceded in death by his parents, Chester and June, his first wife, Carol, and various extended family members.
He is survived by his wife Donna Corey-Nelson, his son Gregg Nelson, his brother George Nelson (Mary) and his sister Jeanne Lehnert, his stepdaughters Jennie Corey-Henrich (Walter) and Cristi Corey-Luse (Dan), and his granddaughter, Alexia Corey-Luse.
