Just after noon on New Year's Eve, the Oneida County 9-1-1 dispatch center received multiple reports of a two-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 8 east of Hay Meadow Road. When law enforcement and first responders arrived on scene they found one vehicle in the ditch on the eastbound side of the highway and a second vehicle parked on the other side of a crest in the road. According to a sheriff's deputy on scene, the parked car had a flat tire and a person was about to change the tire when the second car came over the hill, clipped the parked car, and spun into the ditch. The driver of the second vehicle had to be extracted by firefighters before being loaded into an ambulance. Two people were transported to Ascension St. Mary's Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The accident is still under investigation. In addition to the sheriff's department, the Wisconsin State Patrol, Pelican Fire and Rescue and Oneida County ambulances responded to the scene.
