In 1955 Ken enlisted in the U.S. Army and served until 1957. For part of his service he was stationed in Germany. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Rhinelander and went to work at the Rhinelander Paper Company. He retired from the mill after over 40 years of employment.
Ken was an active outdoorsman until Parkinson's disease slowed him down. He liked hunting, fishing, motorcycling and snowmobiling. In his youth he dabbled in boxing and in his later years he skated in the Rhinelander Ice Arena shows. He was a big supporter of the Rhinelander Ice Arena and all their programs.
Ken also enjoyed his furry four-legged friends. Throughout his life he raised and trained championship retrievers. His dogs won ribbons and trophies in the United Kennel Club in the Hunting Retriever Club categories.
Ken is survived by his nieces and nephews: Keith of Milwaukee; Donna (William) Woodward of Ashland; Joseph (Sonia) Kichefski of Volant, Pa.; Tammie (Roger) Grimmage of Le Roeulx, Belgium; Conrad of Minneapolis, Minn.; Anita (Jayne Rowsam) of Madison; Karen Cook of Arizona; and Susan Wright of Florida; his sister-in-law, Juanita (Spafford) Kichefski, of Rhinelander; his great-nieces and nephews: Stephanie (Jeff) Zuech of North Canton, Ohio; Stacy Woodward of Madison; Kyle (Melissa) Kichefski of Rochester, N.Y.; Gavin Kichefski of Volant, Pa., Jacob Grimmage of Niceville, Fla.; Tessia Grimmage of Baraboo; and great-great-nieces and nephew.
