Pat was born in Newbold, on Nov. 5, 1933, to Joseph W. and Helen M. (Howe) Rappley. He was raised in Newbold on the family farm. He helped on the family farm and at the age of 16 began working at the Rhinelander Paper Company in 1949.
In 1954 he entered the United States Army and was stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri and Korea. Pat met his future wife; Louise McGuire, while on leave from the Army. The couple were married on Oct. 1, 1955. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Pat returned back to Rhinelander and to his family and job at the Rhinelander Paper Company. Pat enjoyed traveling, gardening, working in the woods, fishing, hunting and anything outdoors.
Surviving are his children: Patrick (Mily) Rappley Jr. of Sugar Camp, Pamela (Doug) Smith of Rhinelander, Linda (Garnett) Wooten of Jacksonville, Fla., Lori (Donald) Crites of Dry Ridge, Ky., Cathy Rappley (Terry Webster) of Rhinelander; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Larry Rappley of Newbold, sisters Sharon Schwartz of Rhinelander and Sali (Dan) Winn of Harshaw, sister-in-law Marjorie Rappley of Rhinelander and one aunt, Goldie Muelver of Summit Lake. Pat is further survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Louise Rappley on Jan.14, 2002, daughter Mary Coppenger, and by two brothers, James and Harry Rappley.
The visitation for Pat will take place on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021 at the funeral home from 11:30 a.m. until the 1:30 p.m. funeral service. Pastor Buddy Wimberly will be the officiant. Immediately following the service there will be a procession to Northland Memorial Park for the committal service.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, please enter the funeral home on Davenport Street, and as you leave you will be directed to exit through the doors of the funeral home on Pelham Street. When arriving hands will be sanitized, and for the safety of the family and the Rhinelander community, the wearing of masks and social distancing will be required.
