A beloved winter tradition will continue this weekend when the Rhinelander Lions Club hosts the 45th annual Fisheree on the Boom Lake and Bass Lake sections of the Rhinelander Flowage.

"The ice conditions are looking good and with over $1,000 in prizes awarded each day, this is a great time to get out and catch a fish!" Lion Mike Romportl, the Fisheree event coordinator, said in a press release.

There will also be a free "kids 11 and under" event each day with a prize awarded on the hour starting at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for kids bringing in a fish they caught each hour, the release states.

Fishing entry tickets can be purchased from Mel's Trading Post, West Side Shell, Kemp St. BP, Hodag Pump and Pantry, Holiday Station Stores, Kemp St. Marathon Station, River Street Tap, Hodag Mobil, and The Fishing Hole.

There will be a $500 cash prize each day for the longest northern caught, $250 for the second longest, $150 for the third longest, $100 for the fourth longest and $50 for the fifth longest.

Additional prizes will be awarded for walleye, perch, crappie and bluegill catches.

Early entry tickets, purchased prior to 7 a.m. Saturday, are $20.

Late entry tickets, purchased up to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, are $25 to fish for the remainder of Saturday and Sunday. Late entry tickets can also be purchased up to 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 14 to fish Sunday, Feb. 14. The cost is $25.

Food and other indoor activities will not take place due to COVID-19.

The Rhinelander Lions Club uses the funds raised from this event to support many community activities as well as their mission of healthy vision. The Rhinelander Lions Club contributes to or sponsors the following activities: Leader Dog Program for Blind, Wisconsin Lions Camp for Blind, Oneida County Eye Care Fund, Rhinelander High School Scholarship, Camp Birchrock, Babe Ruth Baseball, Rhinelander Soccer Club, Hodag Water Shows, Badger Boys State, Post Prom, Rhinelander Alpine Ski Team, Alzheimer's Association, YMCA, Prevention of Domestic Abuse, vision screening for children, Community Christmas Dinner, Rhinelander Area Food Pantry, U.S. Highway 8 cleanup, July 4th Kiddy Parade, HeadStart Christmas gifts, Christmas music for elderly, used eyewear collection, White Cane Awareness Days, Northwoods Alliance for Temporary Housing and the Lights of the Northwoods.
