He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin, Platteville, in mining engineering, and also an associate's degree in land surveying from Nicolet Area Technical College. Since his graduation, he has worked in many different mines in North America as a mining engineer; but most notably, he worked in the Nonesuch Mine in Ontonagon, Mich., before its closure.
In the middle of the 1970s, he retired from mining and became an entrepreneur starting Hodag Land Surveying and Soil Testing in Rhinelander.
Dennis was an avid outdoorsman, adventurer, and loved nature and the outdoors. He would often throw on a backpack, pick a direction, and go explore. He was also very athletic and enjoyed swimming, biking, cross-country skiing, ice skating, and hiking.
Survivors include his children, Melba (Phil) Guzik, and Brent (Raychel) Stella; his grandchildren, Todd Julian, Autumn Woodward, Azara Guzik, Ben Guzik, Josiphine Guzik, Sam Guzik, Reuben Guzik, Kayla Milan, Victoria Stella, Josephine Stella, and Heather Struck. He is further survived by many great-grandchildren.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Bruno and Josephine.
